Privacy Policy
How we handle the information you share with us.
The short version
We collect the minimum information we need to do our job well. We use it to prepare for your ceremony, handle the legal registration, and communicate with you. We do not sell it, share it with marketers, or use it for anything unrelated to your wedding.
What we collect and why
Enquiry and contact information
When you contact us — by email, via our contact form, or by phone — we collect your name, contact details, and the details of your enquiry. We use this to respond to you and, if you book with us, to prepare for your ceremony.
Booking and ceremony information
Once you book, we collect the information we need to plan and officiate your ceremony: both partners' full names and ID or passport details, your ceremony date and venue, and any relevant details about previous marriages. This information is required to complete the DHA-24 register and to submit your marriage to the Department of Home Affairs.
Identity and legal documents
For legal ceremonies, we may need to sight or receive copies of identity documents, divorce decrees, death certificates, or — for foreign nationals — declarations of no impediment and visa documentation. We handle these with care and do not retain them any longer than necessary.
Vows, scripts, and ceremony notes
We keep a copy of your ceremony script and any notes from our consultations. This helps us prepare properly and means we have a record if you ever want a copy of your ceremony wording after the day.
Where we store your information
We store working documents and ceremony files in Google Drive. Google Drive operates under its own privacy and security terms. We keep files organised by client and restrict access to the team members who need it.
Who we share your information with
We share your information with:
- The Department of Home Affairs, as required by the Marriage Act 25 of 1961. The completed DHA-24 register is submitted to Home Affairs to record your marriage. This is a legal requirement and cannot be avoided for civil marriages.
- No one else, except where required by law.
We do not share your information with third-party marketers, mailing list providers, or other wedding industry vendors unless you explicitly ask us to.
How long we keep your information
We keep your contact and ceremony details for a reasonable period after your wedding — long enough to assist if any questions arise about the registration, and to provide you with a copy of your ceremony script if you ask for it later.
Sensitive documents — copies of identity documents, divorce decrees, and similar — are deleted from our systems once we no longer need them for the ceremony or the registration process. We do not keep unnecessary copies of sensitive personal documents.
Where we are legally required to retain a record (such as a register entry), we retain only what the law requires for as long as the law requires it.
Your rights
Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you.
- Request a correction if any information is inaccurate.
- Ask us to delete information we no longer need (subject to our legal obligations).
- Object to our use of your information where we have discretion about it.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us directly using the details on our contact page.
Cookies and website analytics
Our website does not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics tools that collect personal information about visitors. We may use basic server-level analytics to understand traffic patterns, but this does not identify individual visitors.
