Wedding shoes — ready to be legally married in Johannesburg

Marriage Officer Johannesburg

Registered marriage officers for legally valid civil marriages in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

What is a marriage officer?

A marriage officer is a person licensed by the Department of Home Affairs to solemnise civil marriages in South Africa. Only a licensed marriage officer can conduct a legally valid civil marriage. We are licensed marriage officers — appointed under the Marriage Act — and we serve couples across Johannesburg and Pretoria.

What we do on the day

We arrive at your venue, verify identity documents, conduct the ceremony, complete the DHA-24 register, and obtain the required signatures. After the ceremony, we submit the register to the Department of Home Affairs. Your marriage is legally valid from the moment the register is signed.

Legal requirements

For a legally valid civil marriage in South Africa:

  • Both parties must be present and give their consent.
  • Two adult witnesses with valid identity documents must be present.
  • A licensed marriage officer must conduct the ceremony and sign the register.

See the full documents checklist for what each person needs to bring.
